Supporters of Safe Harbors play a vital role in our ability to provide housing for our neighbors; to bring accessible and affordable world class visual and performing arts to our community; to create a cultural and social hub in our city-center; to attract businesses to our main street and to contribute to the revitalization of Newburgh.
Over the past few years, Safe Harbors has been busy creating opportunities in our community. In 2014, Safe Harbors enhanced its artist studio space; and provided the build-out for the two commercial spaces that now include Grit Works and 2 Alices Coffee. In 2015, Safe Harbors purchased a vacant lot adjacent to the project and created an urban park—Safe Harbors Green. In 2016, Safe Harbors was awarded a NY State grant for the replacement of the historic Ritz Theater roof. Work on the roof was completed in 2019. In late 2017, Safe Harbors was awarded an additional NY State grant which will allow for the continued restoration of the Ritz and its development into a center for performance and education. We need your help to continue to this momentum and make an impact in Newburgh!
